The Elk Valley Coal Partnership operates six coal mines in western Canada and is the second-largest shipper of seaborne metallurgical coal in the world. Teck Cominco holds an effective 45.3% interest in the partnership and is managing partner.
Teck Cominco produced 337,000 ounces of gold in 2007 from its two 50%-owned mines in the Hemlo district of Ontario, and 260,000 ounces gold from its undergroundPogo Mine in Alaska. The company also has a 78.8% interest in the Morelos project in Mexico, a 60% interest in the Lobo-Marte property in Chile and interests in several other advanced gold exploration properties.
Teck Comincos energy division includes a 20% interest in the Fort Hills Energy Limited Partnership, which is developing the Fort Hills oil sands project located in northern Alberta, Canada and a 50% interest in various oil sands leases that they jointly own with UTS Energy Corporation (UTS). Teck Cominco and UTS are advancing development of the Frontier and Equinox Oil Sands Mine Projects in the Athabasca Oil Sands Area of Alberta.
