In October 2014, Stratex acquired a 33.4% strategic stake in AIM-listed GoldStone Resources Ltd for £1.25M.
GoldStone's projects, located in Senegal, Ghana and Gabon, range from early-stage exploration to identified resources. The cash injection by Stratex's acquisition will be focused primarily on the 602,000 oz Homase/Akrokerri gold project in Ghana, with the immediate aim of adding shallow oxide ounces to the current resource. GoldStone owns 100% of the Akrokerri lease and 65% of Homase with an option to earn up to 85%. The licences lie within the Birimian-age Ashanti Gold Belt which hosts the AngloGold Ashanti's 42 Moz Obuasi gold mine. The wider potential of this major gold-endowed structural zone is being evaluated by the combined Stratex-GoldStone team.
An in-depth review of GoldStone's other exploration licences in Senegal and Gabon is also underway.
